Don’t be a guilt tripper
Don’t be a guilt tripper
Interest rates shot up? You can't support yourself and your family anymore?
There is no need to suffer.
Do not indulge in guilt because you're going to discharge (cancel) your credit card debt through bankruptcy. The credit card companies do not appreciate your self-doubt and regret, and you do not have pity a billion-dollar industry. Despite bankruptcies, the creditors still reap their billions.
And when things don't go well for big corporations (btw, their woes are NOT a consequence of bankruptcies; it was all those misguided mortgage investments), they needn't even suffer bankruptcy. Because of mysterious ways in which money works, they need to get bailouts, 'cause that's what the economy needs to be a winning one. But you don't have to be a loser in that economy.
There is no need to suffer.
Credit card companies don't care if you can't pay your balance. Despite their sophistication, they don't bother to check your finances. They solicit you. They tempt you with nominal cash-back or bonus point offers. They drag you in with teaser (temporary) interest rates. You can't shop without a clerk pushing yet another card on you by coaxing you in with a one-time 10% saving. They know you'll give in to that temptation.
They have no right to indignation 'cause of bankruptcies. They know that by giving easy credit, many consumers will default and have to file bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is an anticipated and calculated cost of business. Creditors are fine with it. If they wanted to, they could be more stringent about granting credit and reduce the number of bankruptcies. But that's not the best business model. Their best bet for success is to readily grant credit to practically anyone who breathes. Their best bet for success is to give more credit to more people, even if that means some will not be able to pay.
And creditors don't make it easy to avoid default and bankruptcy. When you took out a card, you were likely given a low interest rate. When you made purchases, you relied upon a low interest to enable payment. When interest rates hike up suddenly, when limits are lowered and penalties follow, it's the acts of creditors that push you to the brink.
There is no need to suffer.
Should you succumb to phone-calling collectors who condemn and torment? Should you endure the misery they cause? Should you bear self-righteous denigration from harsh voices, spoken by ones employed by virtue of your inability to pay?
There is no need to suffer.
Credit card companies are big boys; they can certainly and they do certainly protect their own interests.
So let's stop guilt-trippin', eh?
